Holistic Grip

Picture
I like to think of our grip as a window to our central nervous system.
Our Grip strength may be the strongest physical correlation that we have to longevity and life expectancy. How can this be? Well, your grip strength is an excellent determinant of your body’s overall strength. I like to think of our grip as a window to our central nervous system. By having a stronger grip, you can increase neural drive: This is literally your ability to recruit more muscle fiber. Thus, by having a stronger grip, your body’s overall strength actually improves: Naturally, each will improve together.

As a performance coach and avid rock climber, I train my grip more than any other attribute. Having strong and enduring fingers, tendons, and forearms is crucial to climbing. But this program goes beyond strength and performance and is structured in a way to create balance and resiliency in our wrists, elbows, and fingers. By building competency and strength in the Holistic Grip workouts, you are building better mobility, function, balance, and strength in the surrounding joints. These workouts are the very same exercises that helped me restore full function back into my elbow after “shattering” my ulna and radius in a snowboarding accident — barely avoiding reconstructive surgery — The orthopedist thought I may never regain full elbow function. Now I am doing full one-arm pull-ups on that very elbow and have never felt stronger. If you are rehabbing an injury, training for climbing, or just want to gain incredible grip strength, Holistic Grip is for you!

This course utilizes common equipment found in most gyms.

Equipment Utilized: Pull-up bar, bumper plates, dumbbells, bench, weighted poll, bar, cast iron pan or mace.
